The Seasons Poem by Philip St. Cyr

The Seasons

The snow has just melted
The bitter cold has gone away
being replaced by the warmth of the changing climate
The trees begin to foliate as plants once again begin to grow
the animals are roaming around and the forest is full of life
the birds are singing and sun now shines brightly in the sky
one by one packets of seeds begin to open
as the wind disperse them into the atmosphere
tap, tap, tap, the first drops of rain descend from the heavens
this rain brings new life
the plants and trees soon begin to flower
violets, roses, tulips, and daffodils serve as decorations
as the temperature continues to escalate
welcoming a another change as the summer is about to begin

The sun rays beam against the surface
the climate has changed
the heat slowly begins to escalate
gradually growing warmer day by day
as location varies
it may be dry or humid
the rain at times may be scarce
the fields are alive with insects
and the birds have long returned
from their winter vacation
people swim to avoid the heated extremities
visiting beaches, lakes, or pools
even at night the climate remains warm
as time goes on the heat cycle increases
until it reaches its peak
and as slowly as it all began
the temperature begins to decline
as the fall is approaching

Fall is here
temperatures are gradually lowering
wind brushes roughly through the trees
winter will soon be approaching
the leaves slowly begin to change color
producing an aurora-like display of splendor
the squirrels begin to gather food for the winter
as the birds begin their long journey southward
once completely foliated, the trees now appear naked
as the last of their foliage descend to the ground
the great bears hunt for their last time
they await their hibernation in their underground burrows
the foxes and deer soon emerge in newly worn winter coats
reflecting the change in weather
fall has come to an end as winter begins.

All is still and peaceful
winter has finally arrived
dropp by dropp the first signs of snow appear
until the ground is entirely submerged in frost
the rabbits stride along in the snow
almost invisible in their furry white coats
the bears have long hibernated beneath the snowy beds
the rivers and lakes once streaming with life are now frozen stiff
most plants have already died
as the trees lay covered in blankets of snow and icicles
as weeks go by seldom is heard
but the howling of wolves or the hooting of the owls
as the months pass, the sun, once a faint glimmer of light,
reappears from behind the dark gloomy clouds
the snow and ice slowly begin to melt until completely gone
the rivers and lakes once again teem with life
the bears begin to emerge from their underground burrows
the birds now begin their long trip back home
the winter has passed on and spring is about to begin
