The Search

An absence yours, disturbingly
Entwines me; the crowned being
Of season, you're away, now beyond
The centre and shaft of the self!

Symbols of summer heat are pale
On the other side of the hill;
Breath of death comes in,
Across the wealhered tombs of earth.

Sleep on goddess, sleep on;
The thrust from the earth
May turn you aside;
You'd dream in the broken continent,
Often returning to your rest.

Here waiting trees peer
Through the sadness you left
In the kitchen, bed-room and porch;
Traces of love linger

As cold or hot to the body!
Tell me, how words slip
From summer's lips as you're away;
I grope towards the altar with you, and
Your song and your fragrance!
