The Safe Haven Poem by Ehi Abah

The Safe Haven

The friend crossed his heart
The promise got broken
The builders built
The city's now in ruins
The watchman watched
The wails of the lucky living are still heard

They run helter
They run skelter
There's no bread in the land
The bandits still want their share
The roof of the trusted has become a snare

The arm of man will fail
His words a toothless dog's woof
But a tower remains
When one's eyes are raised
Arms open to keep us safe
For Jehovah is more than able
