The Royal Gift Poem by Yehoshua Shim'onai

The Royal Gift

He deserves a throne
but we gave Him a cross;

He deserves honor
but we gave Him nakedness;

We should have cried, 'Long live the King! '
but we demanded, 'Crucify him! '

Yet, for love, He received what we gave Him
that He may give what He wants us to receive.
