The Road Taken Poem by Leaking Pen

The Road Taken

Where does my poetry go from here? I fear!
Like way of the dinosaurs extinct to my chagrin.
Is rhyming old history some made it clear,
Free verse from where my nightmares begin.

Lately, rhyming has been ridiculed a lot
And I am nailed on its rhythmic cross
If free verse were to seed every plot
Diversity will cease to be, oh what a loss!

Is rhyming obsolete my reason to fret
Yet Robert Frost remarked that writing free verse
Was like playing fast tennis without a net.
It’s a Shakespearean pleasure to rhyme not a curse.

*Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of free verse, shall outlive a poetic rhyme;
Rhyming shines more bright in these contents
Than free verse written in present time.

*From Shakespeare's Sonnet LV.:
