The Rhine's Smile Poem by Taher Shemaly

The Rhine's Smile

Let me spread my smile
over the running Rhine
And let that heart line
fade away the gloomy wine
Though my soul is drunk
with my troubles forever sober
But I shall be tomorrow awake
that's when my heart is a lover

The travel is long, so long
long enough to dropp my tears
Even though my hopes are there
to vanish away my greatest fears
And when it is time for the storm
my eyes in safety shall be asleep
If no place shall be warm
my heart for me shall I keep

Oh, Oh Rhine of my dreams
true or false should I think of you
By every moment still my hopes
far away and close appear from you
But to follow you I'm devoted
that's how my destiny got to be
My smile shall shine again as promised
O Rhine, the river of the life of me
