The Resultant Collateral Damage Of Change Poem by William J Seifert

The Resultant Collateral Damage Of Change

“Ravaged by spleen”
Modernity the brutal mother
Weeding out the deserters
As the phantasmagorical carnival
Continues its fever pitch
Because time is obsolete
(from the macro view)
When we reside in the keyhole
Reducing the “soft hearted”
“Weak stomached” fringe
To agoraphobics and hypochondriacs
Or more profoundly and visibly
The conditions of the addict
Not some gene flaw, tripped up wiring
But a genealogical distaste
(conscious but ignored)
For the mother of invention
A yardsticked albatross
Prophesying up high from
Her nunnery castle
The great leap of transformation
Resulting in the grey minority’s
Souls ebbing –
Pleading to reside in
The plague of now –
Not the where to?
The keep-moving-or-die
That shuts some off
By the shock of
Alien stimulus bombardment
Too much too fast
Like a cacophonic avalanche
Mud broken tree landslides of
Metal wreckage pushed to sea
Or outer space
For newer, sleeker edifices
Revolutionizing the landscape into a
Concrete sinkhole of unearthly jungle
Constructing
Dissolution dreams evaporating
Into unseen nightmares on a
Molecular level
For today is ephemeral
The hour is temporary
As the lens is lifted and renewed
Magnifying the resultant
Collateral damage of change
Eliciting despair like pruned tendrils
Asking for gription
On the slippery shale of technological
Advances declared as prophecy
So the modern machine pushes
Forward and consumers plump
Where acolytes ripen at
The foothills of greed
As the mountains grow
The perceived scrawny chested
Paper skinned brittle skeletons
Torn open raw and primed
For disaster
Hide in the same yellow lighted
Shade drawn rooms of wood
Shack boarding houses of
Dispersed over the
Universal metropolis
Under the looming
Neon trench coat shadows of
Progression
Strewn like histrionic trash
Of archaic beliefs
