The Promise Poem by Melanie Fortenberry

The Promise

You broke your promise,
Not to mention my heart.
Although I’m over you,
You were not too smart.
The reason you did it
Will never be clear,
Just like the blurred memories
That I held so dear.
I swore not to let you go
And you did the same,
But you watched me fall
And you put me to shame.
We agreed to stay close
We agreed to be friends,
But you’re afraid to talk;
Is this where it ends?
