The Promise* Poem by Thistle Wargul

The Promise*

Drifting away,
In a world full of love.
Friends and partners together,
Bonded forever.

A stone structure in the hill’s embrace,
Green leafed trees guarding the gates.
Ominous but still beautiful,
Sheltering grassy hardened ground.

Deep wooden pews
Bursting with excitement.
“You’re summoned here to witness
The joining of partners in crime.”

Two gold rings
Sparkling in sunlight,
Hearts joined in an unbroken promise.
Carried on
A crimson cushion
In amongst the velvet folds.

To have and to hold,
To love and to cherish,
In sickness and health,
Forsaking all others
‘Till death due us part!

Drifting away,
In a world full of love.

“With this ring,
I thee wed! ”
