The Prisoner Poem by RAJ NANDY

The Prisoner

THE PRISONER

My shackled life remains an eternal prisoner
of bonded time,
With only a few hours of freedom granted by
this life!
Let me not lose these precious moments while
I live,
For I know not what the morrow may bring!
O Time do not be in a hurry to leave,
Tarry, just stay for a while;
As I play my harp and sing my song,
And entice you to fall asleep;
While like Delilah I try to cut your hoary
locks!
Before you can rise with the break of dawn,
To place your manacles on my feet,
And whisper softly in my ears, ' Let us go,
your time is complete! '
