The President And The Bird Poem by Joseph T. Renaldi

The President And The Bird

Rating: 5.0

It happened during a new's conference
In the Rose Garden on the 24th of May
When the president stood near the podium
As reporters' questions rambled away.

He spoke about the strategy plans for Iraq,
And the issues of immigration were high,
Encouraging all to rally to challenge the crisis,
As a bird was flying nonchalantly by.

Suddenly, a white dropping fell on his sleeve.
He was startled, but did not curse nor sigh.
He was mighty thankful this fine day
That cows and horses can't fly.

The incident happened midway through President Bush's news conference in the Rose Garden of the White House, Washington, DC. on Thursday, May 24,2007. A bird flew over the president and deposited a wet, white dropping on the upper sleeve of his jacket. The President wiped the mess off the sleeve with his bare hand. This poem commemorates the incident.
