The Poet Of The Gipsies Poem by Francis Duggan

The Poet Of The Gipsies

The Poet of the Gipsies Federico Lorca was his name
His works of literary genius live to his enduring fame
His tragic death a tragedy for his Nation of Spain
But the legend of the great one is destined to remain
For as long as there is a Spanish language and that could be forever more
His poems translated into many languages beyond his Homeland shore
A victim of the Spanish civil war though in that fight he did not take part
A Spanish cultural icon of kind and generous heart
Another tragic victim of man's inhumanity
For him to lose his life in such a way is a Spanish tragedy
What has happened cannot be altered and the past has forever gone
But the legend of Lorca is destined to live on
In the annals of literature as a true poetic great
His fame unlike some others does not have a use by date.
