A poet is a wordsmith
with prophetic vision
of pent-up emotions
alloyed in the sublimal
vaults made explicit
on tufts of reality

a poet has four darts
in his arrow, to say
what happens in the world
to critique what happens
to imagine new things
to create a charming entity

a poet revisits the past
the present and future
to fashion a just path
of the introspective
to forestall silly ugly
human recurrence of woes

he is a reviewer of mores
to proffer solutions
in witty tassels purged
in crucible of conscience
through iconoclastic lens
of unbiased aesthetics

silent warrior of values
captive of vagaries of life
attaining heights of freedom
through awakened sensibilities

propelled by creative essence
of fever-pitch imaginative eye
to fish in sane crystal waters
of spiritual depths to remind
people of fairness by evoking
not only what is but what should be

a poet never dies
he creates and lives
in the heart of humanity
