The Place To Be Poem by William Chaplar

The Place To Be

Just a place for old folks" is what some young people think,
while others believe nowhere can you find a drop to drink!
So let me set the record straight so everybody knows
that Arizona is a place you really want to go.
"There's just one season! " I've heard some misinformed people say.
The fact is, you can see four seasons all in just a day!
While many know of Phoenix and the sights it has to see,
a diehard tourist won't stop looking till they've seen Bisbee.
And while Grand Canyon is the place most people want to go,
your trip won't be complete until you've driven through Winslow.
And surely none should ever claim to have seen Arizona
until they've seen that New Age Mecca we know as Sedona.
If winter sports in this place is a thought that makes you laugh,
then pack the skis and snowmobile and head up to Flagstaff.
If resort living is your thing, then make sure you don't fail
to call and get a room reserved for your stay in Scottsdale.
If nature is your forté, a place worthy of remark
is where the giant cacti grow—Saguaro National Park.
If poetry's your passion and you've searched "hither and yon, "
a poetry festival takes place every spring down in Tucson.
If wild-west legends are the things you most want on display,
Tombstone acts out its famous gunfight nearly every day.
So let's not talk of heat waves or illegal immigration
when Arizona is the topic of the conversation.
Let's rather discuss all the things that this state has to see.
'Cause then you'll realize Arizona is the place to be!
