The Person You Are Poem by Francis Duggan

The Person You Are

Though glowing things of you others never may say
If you never harm others and live in the honest way
You are a good person though a stranger to renown
And you don't need to hang your head when walking in the town
Your friends and acquaintances you are not out to impress
But in your own quiet way you are a success
Though in your local community not to the fore
One in need of help you would never ignore
You give of your kindness and with others you share
And people like you are becoming more rare
Though the praises of the quiet achiever others never do sing
The gift of humility is a wonderful thing
In your garage you do not have an expensive motor car
But material things say nothing of the person you are.
