The Peoples Choice Poem by Francis Duggan

The Peoples Choice

Rating: 4.0

The people they choose him as their leader and the people gave to his party power
And the people his fame celebrated and they cheered him in his glorious hour
And the poets have written poems about him and his fame is revered in song
And though the people may not realize it the people again got it wrong.

His Government oppress the minorities and for that the people they give him their nod
We do not need people amongst us who believe in a different God,
We do not need people amongst us who are different in any way
They deserve to be treated as outcasts if to our God they refuse to pray.

The outside World doesn't see him as a good person but many of his people see him as okay
Those different to us cannot be equal and they do not warrant fair play
Yet because of him some are far worse off and because of him dreams are destroyed
And what happens within our borders is our own business and only for us to decide.

The number one choice of the people and the people he seems to serve well
The majorities rule in our Country and the minorities can go to hell
Why should we feel for the fringe dwellers, the poor and the dispossessed and downtrod
And why should we take kindly to people who worship a different God.

The number one choice of the people and the one who is supposed to rule for one and all
On the night he was elected as leader he said as history will recall
That he believed in egalatarianism and for one and for all he would rule
But if he is an egalatarian I must be a silly old fool.
