The Past Follows Us Poem by Francis Duggan

The Past Follows Us

Where ever we go to our past seems to follow
Our past follows us to where ever we go
In my flights of fancy the Finnow is babbling
As through the old fields of Millstreet it does flow.

The past follows us I am one who should know that
Since from the old Hometown I live far away
It's been twenty one years since I saw Clara mountain
And in twenty one years there is many a day.

The past follows us and will always be with us
The old friends and neighbours we often recall
Fond memories of the past always remain with us
And these are the happiest memories of all.

The past follows us with it's faces and places
And happy past memories we happily retain
The migrants they often do think of their Homelands
And in fancy they visit Homeplaces again.
