The Pages Remain Empty... Poem by Lynn El Amine

The Pages Remain Empty...

Cupid's arrow is bent
Somehow the queen of hearts won the bet
Cupid sighs
Like nothing's changed

Divine mighty power
Could it be broken?

Cupid denies
Inactive is what he claims to be
For once
Speeches are failing him
Failure to give more
Failure to receive

Cupid sits crossed legs
Head bent down
He smokes his cigarette
On that hill
Where he cast a spell on me
And gave me his throne

Stupid Cupid
His arrow is bent
What if I broke it?

Or maybe that's his aim
Maybe he wants me to break it
Break the love
Break the shame

Some things are beyond my skill
Of description, explanation
Cupid gave me his power
Is it possible for me to win the game?

As words failed him
They tease me
While I try to define
The need of my knight's porcelain
The collision of our skin
But since I'm the new Cupid
I can't win

Cupid couldn't find the words
And so can't I

Now I'm sitting by Cupid's side
Sharing his drink
Cigarette puff
Smoke and smoke
Smoke and ashes
The arrow is broken
The bow has been put aside

Cupid and I
Share the same bind
Cupid wanted to take a break
But the queen of hearts awaits
Cupid has to go back
Feed her the shared lines

Cupid couldn't win
And so can't I
His rank was given by fault
And so was mine

Love and romance
Had their chance
But Cupid's too tired to dance

Sonnets written were of nothing
The painting that troubles your mind
Is originally in black in white
Dead

A failure to speak
Left Cupid chained to an image in mind
A vision that was not to be expressed
But only felt

The dose has been doubled
His feelings win over him
Just like me
Lost in the tunes of this song
Figuring out what words I should use
To win my knight's company

Thought can't be recorded
Nor emotion
Now I, Cupid
Try to write a new chapter
In the holy book of Desire

Looks like my pen is dry
Just like my mouth
A desert with no dropp of ink
No dropp of rain

She,
The queen of hearts,
Looks at Cupid the same
She smiles
Like nothing's changed

Poseidon
The angry sea
Is now calm
The tide rises
The tide falls
Cupid and I
Still trying to turn this vision
Into a lullaby

White thread on both of our heads
A lifetime passed
Or maybe two
Solid at our position
The pages are empty
The pages remain empty…
