The Online Scammer Poem by Olivia Slemmermann

The Online Scammer

Aha! I know your face is black, not white
Even though you pretend to be so uptight
No camera you said to show your face
Let alone to view your living space

To Oxford you went to learn your trade
But no refined good old language skills to rate
A citizen of Irish birth so you claim
Yet Irish or British your accent isn’t mate

You linger not to talk that much
Lest your breeding rough and tough
Seeps through that façade you’re keeping
Thoughts are dark and bent on deceiving

Identity theft marks those photos posing
Claims as yours, sweet talking and romancing
Sucker I know what you’re after
Not a penny will you get, you are stealing

There’s no ship on which you are sailing
Nor Somalian pirates after you are chasing
No gold or cabin box or belongings lost
It’s all a ruse of your fickle mind crafting

Just a stunt to exploit a gullible fool
Into thinking you are a virtuous fellow
Who threatens to take your life, you troll
If you get no money to redeem your belongings

And set you free before the ship set sails
Packed with cargo bound to Russia it deems
A fugitive aboard you claim you are
No food to eat and no money to drink

Playing on the emotions of a fool that’s me
