The One Pub Country Town Poem by Francis Duggan

The One Pub Country Town

Tis only by your local fame you will ever know renown
For that's how life it seems to be in the one pub Country Town
And if you are a stranger there a stranger you'll remain
For friendships in such places are always hard to gain
To the old one pub Country Town the Seasons come and go
And everybody's business everybody seems to know
And the only form of evening entertainment is at the local pub
The meeting place of the members of the cricket and football club
Where the local ageing barmaid knows most people by name
And if not friendly towards strangers for that them do not blame
And before they confide in you of your secrets they must know
For in the one pub Country Town friendships are hard to grow
And every local sports person know of local renown
For that's how life it seems to be in the one pub Country Town.
