The Olympic Games Poem by Francis Duggan

The Olympic Games

What Nation wins the most gold medals in the pride stakes to the fore
'Tis all about winning that and nothing more
A showpiece of sport many are known to say
But the price for Olympoic failure for some huge to pay
'Tis all about ego and about self esteem
And 'tis all about winning that is how it does seem
And 'tis all about arrogance and National pride
What does seem quite obvious should not be denied
Where dreams they are shattered and heroes are made
For the losers there never will be a parade
Tears of disappointment and tears of ecstasy
It has little to do with sport that's how it does seem to me
Where only medal winners they do celebrate
The Olympic Games such big egos create.
