The Nook Poem by Ronald Kerst

The Nook

While sitting in my easy chair
I dozed off and I was there
Took a trip to yesterday
Where everything is gone today.

I stopped in at The Nook
Stepped inside to have a look.
Nickel juke boxes on the walls
I selected tunes and had a ball.

The counter stands where you first walk in
the sign reads, Have a seat my friend.
The Nook where good food and people meet,
A great place to come and eat.

Placed my order from my booth
Living a memory from my youth.
Bright red booths and tiled floor
Malt Shop visions forevermore.

Open grill, Watch if you please.
The cook, flips the burgers and adds sliced cheese.
He toasts the buns, adds some fries,
makes a cherry coke, I'm mezmorized!

As I leave The Nook, from this dream I'm in.
The sign reads, Please come back again!
This dream is over but I've enjoyed
fond memories of my hometown, Danville, Illinois.
