The Night Transforms Simple Things Poem by David Harris

The Night Transforms Simple Things

Tail lights shine like rubies
on long dark distant roads,
headlights are like mini suns
heading your way along lonely highways.
The night transforms simple things
into what the mind wants to see.
Fleeting shadows dancing
under cars headlights
become spooky encounters
along lonely country roads.
The silence of the night is eerie
driving without the radio on.
Our over active imagination
creates things not there
in front of our tired eyes.
Pulling over to rest a while
and standing out in the evenings cool breeze
alerts us to the sounds of the night
that from within the car we can never hear,
but outside it all becomes clear
and the night is alive with sounds
waiting for the breaking of a new day.
