The Natural Learner Poem by Samanyan Lakshminarayanan

The Natural Learner

Rating: 5.0

my little one used to be
shooting out questions before she joined school
after joining school
she is tamed or trained..i don't know
to answer questions

they are heaped with information
loads and loads of books they carry
information seems buried not sown in her
she is trained to bring it out
as answers to the asked questions

the learners are not expected to contribute back
if the information was sown in them
an intriqued learner would nurture it and
come out with his contribution to the subject
no such thing is expected out of them

THEY JUST BECOME A PRODUCT..AND
EDUCATION A NECESSARY EVIL

I don't know if my child enjoys her studies
i think if not for her friends in school
it would be difficult sending her to school
the natural learner in her...i think
has been put to rest

as products they come out differently
some are proud, arrogant and over confident
some come out feeling inferior..not sure of themselves
competition and marks over seed the subject
why waste fifteen long years just to come out as assesed products

After spending fifteen long years in this ordeal...we say
they are well equipped to survive in a competitive world..may be so
what we truely lose in this ordeal is our 'natural learner'
this world has been made a competitive one by churning out similar products
only if the 'natural learner' starts learning a progressive world would dawn

WHY IS'NT THERE AN EXAM IN WHICH
THE STUDENT IS MADE TO RAISE QUESTIONS?
WHY ARE WE ALL PREPARED ONLY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS?
JUST A SET OF QUESTIONS

[In india we do have the ICSE and CBSE system which to a certain extent
is better with regard to saving the subject...even there the emphasis
on marks and exams would do damage to the 'natural learner']

The search for knowledge should always be a joy, a joy that should last a life time. Unfortunately some lose this joy by the regimentation of exams. Bob
