The Mother Cat Poem by greg richardson

The Mother Cat

The mother cat
grooms her kittens
who suck the sweet nectar
of her milk
and mew
in staccato.
Each one falls asleep
on her belly
as the contented mother
dreams
of birds and mice
and her own mother
long gone
serving as protector
of someone else's home.
