The Morning Lyre Poem by Cornileus Ellinson

The Morning Lyre

The Morning Lyre

Two groups of people stopped and stared

As the construction crew labored

What were they building what was it all

The thing that they were building was a great wall

They tried to stop it but it was too late

The wall was completed and sealed there fate

The two groups divided and couldn’t stand

Like the house upon the shifting sand

What would they do set apart

They could do nothing but sit and watch the tools final spark

The children had it a great idea

The adults wouldn’t listen they had there own way

The children would do it to see there friends the next day

Early the next morning the children up first

And there they went they ran past the church

Gone they were gone the adults in pursuit thinking what and were what would they do

The children almost there three blocks to go

The adults watching closely and there was the wall still standing true

The adults figured it out was and screamed NO! NO!

As the children figured it was the only way to go

Up up over the wall that’s the only way

The adults running and pleading no no please stay

The guards catch sight of the children over the wall

The children see there friends and run to see them all

They guards have to mercy they take aim and fire

They only sound left is the sound of the morning lyre
