The Monk Poem by Leon Jaime Villegas

The Monk

The lovable monk was in his essence
The neighbor ruler appeared in his presence
The monk found himself expelled
Left with no country and quarters for his bones dwell
From all he calls home and pushed away in exile
Who? . From this universe expanse
Could separate you from cradle land. Who?
In a theater of insensibilities hearts make their own rights'
The fire of reason monk burned and kept anyhow
Through many lands traversed wide n' round
The bread of wisdom with the world shared
No country God gave to a prophet
An abode gave him instead
Existent in our hearts all
Profound monk
Come home
Find peace forever
Always awaiting
Your shining soul
