The Message Poem by Angelo Mitchell

The Message

Time for us to rise
study your African history
from Marcus Garvey to John Henrik Clarke
African living is our time
start the revolution
stop killing each other sisters and brothers
that's what they want us to do
use your minds
drug dealers be business people
live up and never give up.

Brothers and sisters
rise like never be for
we are the next generation
a generation that can get us
away from mental slavery
they are putting us under them
African youth tired of raps, singing, and comedy
time for us to begin
cause as long as we live
these people at the top won't be our friends.

The message is simple
our people were kings and queens
being great and living great
we are in a maze,
but we can get out and we will
this system is clever, but we are more better
telling us in school
that the only history we had
was the white man
at once I believed,
but now since my third eye has open
through my words and poetry
let your African minds rise
letting your anger being spoken
we let it go on to long
fight the power brothers and sisters
long live the message
forget this system
time to address it
to the universe
let African people advance
no more dreaming
African people in control
that's what I'm seeing.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It's about our social and radical thoughts in our head, cause our people need to learn something better than just what they hear in school.
