The Memories Poem by Eric Joseph Lopez

The Memories

I remember the days of my younger self
When things wasn’t as bad as it is today
I remember coming home from school
Then running out in the fields to play
I remember hearing my mom sweet voice
Softly whispering into my ear
I remember seeing her and dad fight
He’ll leave her on the bed wiping her tears
I remember my dad coming home
After a night out at the bars
I remember seeing my mom in the kitchen
After I walk in covering to hide the scars

I remember my mom telling me
To go hide under the shelve
I remember my dad finding me
And how much pain after I felt
I remember coming home from school one evening
And I saw an ambulance park in the driveway
I remember seeing my mom one last time
Right before they carried her away
I remember seeing a police man
Putting my dad into his car
I remember seeing the onlookers
Watching until they drove off far

I remember when I was place into a home
And how all the children stared
I remember sitting in the corner
Feeling so sad and scared
I remember going to bed that night
Crying myself to sleep
I remember waking up the next morning
Thinking my mom was preparing something to eat
I remember walking into the toilet
And seen Mr. Steven with a boy
I remember what happen after
But I don’t like talking about it at all

I remember the days that turn to months
And the months that turn to years
I remember praying to God each night
Asking him, please take me away from this nightmare
I remember so much of everything
That has happen back then
I remember the day when Kristine came
And soon became my best friend
I remember how we use to stay up late
Lying on the lawn outside
I remember watching up at the stars with her
Laying side by side

I remember us playing in the garden one afternoon
Hide and seek was our favorite game
I remember when we stumble upon Mr. Steven
Badly battered body lying in a drain
I remember when the police was asking questions
We said that we haven’t seen anything
I remember the days to come full of light
With the joy that each day brings
I remember when we grew up and move out
And I had ask Kristine to be my wife
I remember when we gotten married
And to this day she is still and forever is my life

I guess God did answer my prayers after all
I’m still standing strong bold and tall
It all work out on its own in time
My tormentor got paid for his crime
I married a beautiful woman in September
Now I have good things to look back to remember…
