The Mcalpine Lies Poem by Barney Rooney

The Mcalpine Lies

Rating: 5.0

Praise the metal of the man
sheathed his sword when he had power in hand
endured the smear for all of 20 years
since some scally nailed the notice to his door
that sirs abused these children of the poor

Now the McAlpine lies
at peace among his friends
they merry danced to a ring a rosy end
called the tune and duly all complied
injunctivitis turns the best of eyes
when claims on truth become the clothes of lies

The BBC lies
prone and humbled on the ground
tripped upon a tale that would rebound
being almost right is no defence
for a lazy Newsnight’s compromised intent
and now the McAlpine honour is ringfenced

The wise clown lies
pratfallen in the centre of the ring
tried to use his stifled voice to sing
took to mime when noone heard a thing
clowns learn how to laugh at the absurd
of lords and lawyers rendering mime in words
compensated by the wry sleight of life
where silence and remedy bear equal price
