The Mayan Calendar Poem by Francis Duggan

The Mayan Calendar

The old Mayan were renowned seers who into the future with some accuracy did delve
But their calendar is due to end in the year of two thousand and twelve
They forecast the rise and fall of the Empires from century to century
And of wars all around the World with some share of accuracy.

Some World renowned seers claim that in two thousand and twelve World changes will be great
Maybe a new age of Worldwide peace humanity may celebrate
Climate change is occuring and with it great change will bring
Though positive people will tell you that change can be a good thing.

In the year two thousand and twelve I may not be alive in our lives no guarantee
That to the Reaper's scythe we are destined to fall for us one certainty
Great changes are occuring in the World every day
And the end of the Mayan Calendar in time is not far away.

As the end of the Mayan Calendar approches the future who can foretell
Will life on Earth be paradise or will life on Earth be hell?
My only ambition in life right now is to live for as long as I can
Though the longest human life in time is not a lengthy span.
