F. J. Thomas

The Lyrical Alchemist

A feeling, lifeless and bare
Wanting to grow, needing air
Her heart found it; then gave it words
No longer dead, no longer blurred
Budding, as emotions turn to verse
No longer unformed but concise; terse
An imprisoned seed with no breath, no choice
Now an active being with its own voice
Its influence those around cannot refuse
Sensing her power with the bloom of her muse

"Heaven"—is what I cannot reach!
The Apple on the Tree—
Provided it do hopeless—hang—
That—"Heaven" is—to Me!
