The Love That Never Was Poem by Ayokunle Adeleye

The Love That Never Was

The answer must not be late;
The excuse must not be lame
'Will you be my dame? '
Asks Anthonia, the dame!

But what can I possibly say
To the damsel that awaits
Like this were her great day
She brings her friend for weight

Well, if at all she weighs in
It is to add pressure
Plus this could be iron coated with tin:
One small scratch... corrosion without measure

Yes, this could be a test
To decipher my intentions about Treasure Chest
Hence, in the few minutes I have
I have I think hard:

It will be difficult to play pest
From the miles away that I'd be
All will result in jest;
The chosen one cannot be me

My answer can only be
(As I cannot say yes) :
'An ugly duckling like me
Does not deserve you, a beautiful princess'

Yet I cannot say I do not like her
Damn I find her attractive- still
But her aura I certainly will mar
For I ain't fine enough for the kill

Finest Jambite, then Miss Ideal
That is the girl I am to have
Yet I do not put the seal
Just maybe I am daft

The Face of Geology
My very own ideology
Maybe age doesn't matter
Maybe distance is just data

Shall I then sign the page
Damning the obstacles posed?
Won't I be taking advantage
Since about of she cannot boast?

For right now I wonder
'What pair will we make? ;
Far and near and yonder
Will our love not be fake? '

Hmmm, not tending her love's lawn
Is my once-in-a-lifetime loss
But what I really mourn
Is the love that never was!
