The Less People You Know Poem by Francis Duggan

The Less People You Know

Rating: 5.0

The less people you know or who know you the less people to be your judge
And less people to criticize you and the less people you to begrudge
You've heard of those with the tall poppy syndrome they live in every village and town
Your achievements they try to belittle and they try their best to drag you down.

The less people you know for you the better the less for you for to impress
If people do not know you then they cannot pass judgement on you if your affairs are in a mess
Or of you they cannot be jealous if you have achieved some success
We are judged by our social status and we are judged by our postal address.

The wealthy and the very famous in some ways pay for their wealth and fame
For the judgemental they are verbal targets and they have been called out of name
The less who know you for you the better your friends only number a few
But that gives you less to look up to and less for to criticize you.

The less people you know or who know you the better for you
'twould appear
For you are less of a target for the judgement of others and less negative things said of you you'll hear
I'd love to live and die an unknown without a headstone to mark where I lay
Free of the judgements of the judgemental good of me or bad they won't say.
