The Leaves Poem by Ryan Brodesser

The Leaves

(2) The leaves
(4) Pile up faster
(6) Than all of the eons
(8) Of time vaunted and immortal
(10) Like the stars themselves that pass as godhood
(12) But all things wither, die fade out like coals burning
(14) Only ashes remain, a historical memory gone
(16) And the Future? The future is hidden, beyond the ken of man
(18) We cannot reveal what we cannot see, lost in our own petty mistakes
(20) Hidden like the leaves, a secret covered by possibilities and hopes
(18) Then fire! An inferno! Burning in the hearts of mankind and it’s people
(16) blind anger, so we march to war ignoring all frantic objections
(14) Little lessons are learned throughout the ordeal. lives lost
(12) Children cut down like wheat, young Innocence shattered,
(10) Their voices silenced Muted evermore.
(8) Time and seasons cover their graves
(6) under the jilted loam
(4) past memories
(2) like leaves

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Thanks for reading! I tried for a pattern, so I went by number. I forgot this one existed until tonight. Please read and review! I hear no other voices in praise or in scorn of my writing and this saddens me: (
