The Leal Poem by Elmer Jennings

The Leal

THE friends I made have slipped and strayed,
And there's a need to cry
And if my friendships break and bend,
The one who's lost is I.

And the one that cares is I.

A trifling lot and best forgot-
And that's my tale, and theirs.

Then if my friendships break and bend,
Then I'm the one who cry's

The while I know that every foe
Is faithful till I die.
Elmer Jennings 2007
Leal: Chiefly Scottish: loyal, true
With an apology to: Dorothy Parker (1893-1967)
Who wrote the following:
The Leal
The friends I made have slipped and strayed,
And who's the one that cares?
A trifling lot and best forgot -
And that's my tale, and theirs.

Then if my friendships break and bend,
There's little need to cry
The while I know that every foe
Is faithful till I die.
