The Law Of These Times Poem by Ravikumar C.P.

The Law Of These Times

Kannada Composition by Purandara Dasa
Translated by C.P. Ravikumar

These are bad times for the truthful,
But for the wicked, the times are splendid.

Deadly disease may befall
On one who takes the name of the Lord
But all bounties come to those
Who wield the unkind sword.

They will raise a finger of suspicion
At a chaste woman these days
And yet they will sing praises
Of a woman who has fallen in her ways

They will bite a hand that helps
And penalize the one who knows all
A woman cant trust her husband or sons,
Truth has taken a mighty fall

A man who engages in charity
May be uprooted in today's times
While that man will rise to the top
Who commits heinous crimesW

My friend, such are these wretched times
One cannot worship Vitthala in privacy and peace.
