The Last Day Of December Poem by Francis Duggan

The Last Day Of December

The last day of December 07 a high of forty degrees
And the sun glowing in the blue sky and there's great warmth in the breeze
That blows down from the old hill by the warm days left brown
Along the quiet and wide streets of the old country town
A very warm day in December the very last day of the old year
Tonight in the town's only pub they will celebrate in beer
And whiskey, gin, rum and brandy, cider, red and white wine
And on the stroke of twelve o clock they will sing 'Auld lang Syne'
Though sparrows in the garden chirp for them a natural thing
It is by far too warm a day for birds to want to sing
Tomorrow will be New year's Day 07 will have gone
And life of course as usual is destined to go on
The last day of the old year a warm and humid day
And the fanfare to the year of 08 is only hours away.
