The Kiss Poem by Darlene Walsh

The Kiss

Rating: 4.9

I walked into the room and he was standing there
Through the void between us I could feel his stare
The shine of his eyes held a piercing gaze
My thoughts hazed as fear flew around in a maze

He glided like mist across the floor
And desire grew like the opening of a door
He was all I craved as he filled my heart
It felt like he was life, my other part

He raised his hand and I quivered to think
Of the heat that rose as my cheeks turned pink
The tips of his fingers touched that heat
While faster and faster my heart did beat

His touch felt chilled and the fire spread
My feelings were mixed with a moment of dread
But the caress lingered and the heat arose
From my head the warmth spread down to my toes

As the heat passed my heart I thought of ice
But the depths of his eyes made me feel nice
His chilling warm hand tilted my head
And from a distance I heard what he said

'My darling you are warmth, life and breath
Your very substance will keep me from death'
As he leaned in with a chaste gentle kiss
The touch of his lips brought me to bliss

His lips moved gently across cheek, jaw and neck
His tongue shedding desire here and there with a fleck
I swooned with the pleasure as he held me erect
His lips spread more warmth to great effect

The warmth ran like ice through my rushing blood
For a moment my fear was aroused in a flood
But he murmured something I could not hear
And it warmed the ice washing away my fear

I felt heat turn to fire at my neck
And I thought the kiss was just a peck
I did not realize my pulse had been burst
And never considered my life was now cursed

My life's blood drained through the fatal kiss
The kiss of a vampire brings only deathly bliss
All I could think was how he would be in bed
And now I lay in my coffin and know I am dead

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Yes, I've been reading vampire novels again (I just finished book 12 in the Anita Blake series) .

1/22/14
Added a touch of fear in 1st stanza, and hopefully made the word fleck (instead of flick) work a little more clearly

Wow, your poem is breathtaking! This is one of the most vivid descriptions of a kiss that I have ever read. I was feeling warm until I came to the last stanza, where I got chilled! By the way, I liked reading your short biography too.

WOW'... whether the kiss was with a fleck or with a flick, surly - it gave a good bit of kick! ! Warmth ran, blood rushed, ice melted and pulse had been burst...... The kiss was thus made a gold rush.... enjoyed your detailing.

Kiss is the initial step of love.First kiss can never be forgotten as it brings thunder and storm throughout the body. Its magnetic effect can be realised throughout the life especially in situation when you are denied further. All I could think was how he would be in bed And now I lay in my coffin and know I am dead
