The Key To My Heart Poem by Lili Freebird

The Key To My Heart

Rating: 4.5

</></></>I wear a key around my neck,
I carry it with me every day of every week,
Every month of every year,
It has hanged around my neck,
Every minute of my life,
As long as I remember,
I have carried this key round my neck.
The key to my heart.

No one ever knew what it opened up,
No one ever knew what it meant to me,
No one ever knew that without it my existence would come to an end,
No one ever knew, not even now.

When I was 12 I met a boy,
I pretty boy, a lovely boy,
For this boy I was ready to open up my heart,
The only problem that occurred was that his heart was not mine.

I tried and tried,
But nothing worked,
He loved a girl who hated me,

When I was 12 I met a girl,
This girl I attempted to befriend,
But every one of my attempts had failed,
This girl loved the boy,
The boy who I also loved,
The only problem that occurred was that he loved her back,
And so she decided that a war will start between us,
The one that won would win the boy.

I was cursed to keep my heart closed up,
The heart I wished to use,
Maybe if I do then this boy would realize that I’m the one he wants,
But I can only open my heart once,
And I am scared to open it right now.

As long as I have the key I can live on without a heart,
As long as I have the key I can still breath but never feel,

When I was 16 I had decided to open up my heart for him,
But on this day my heart was stolen by my only enemy,
And so instead I crawled through the bathroom door and locked myself inside,
The key was gone my heart was bursting open, even thought locket shut,
Nothing seamed to take the right turn,
And so I vanished, leaving not even a memory of myself behind.
