The Italian Cypress Poem by Francis Duggan

The Italian Cypress

I do like the Italian cypress it is such a nice small garden tree
So skinny yet pretty to look at it does seem attractive to me
Ideal for the small town garden as it does take up so little space
That is the great beauty of Nature for everything there is a place
In the winds it bends like a bamboo and even powerful gales it can withstand
The pencil pine or Italian cypress feels at home in almost every Land
So frail looking and yet so sturdy of Nature's ways I am in awe
Her wonders are all around us the one who lives by her own law
The ideal tree for a small garden it does have a charm of it's own
It can grow in most soils without any attention for it's hardiness it is well known
So different from other species of cypress not abundant but also not rare
So tall and so slender and dainty a garden tree beyond compare
At home in the little town garden by a wall or a house often seen
The skinny yet hardy Italian cypress a pretty to look at evergreen.
