The Green Poem by Myrtle Thomas

The Green

The Green

' green with life ' frostbitten to color red
unattached, dancing the tango yellow and orange

fall found us overnight touched the cheek
bit the lip, changed our mind to master the puzzle of nature
raindrops fall on tree tops with rhythm
as laughter awaits hot chocolate

cascading leaves pile up along roads to beautify
glamorous landscapes of nature the colors more fantastic
than the year before

the golden maple doing a flash dance each step choreographed
like a broadway stage extravaganza as Mozart plays along
Spider webs spun so delicate, overnight draw drops of diamond like dew
glimmer in the morning daybreak with a pin oak leaf in tow
the green life of yesterday seems but a memory today
just as the rain puddle dried up, the leaves have danced their dance and moved on
the trees soon naked bare evidence of their dance in the wind
they performed so beautifully in their green uniform and the colorful broadway attire as laughter awaits hot chocolate

cascading leaves pile up along roads to beautify
glamorous landscapes of nature the colors more fantastic
than the year before

' oh to hold the moment ' the temperature for just awhile
or to fade into the picture to be idle and watch people stare
the sun comes out and warms the day, as the apples turn rosy red
hayrides and pumpkin fields as the leaves continue to fly
over night the frost moved in with crystals so very fine
damaging the green things turning to scarlet like red wine

the golden maple doing a flash dance each step choreographed
like a broadway stage extravaganza as Mozart plays along
spider webs spun so delicate, overnight draw drops of diamond like dew
glimmer in the morning daybreak with a pin oak leaf in tow
the green life of yesterday seems but a memory today
just as the rain puddle dried up, the leaves have danced their dance and moved on
the trees soon naked bare evidence of their dance in the wind
they performed so beautifully in their green uniform and the colorful broadway attire
