The Great Flood Poem by Ravikumar C.P.

The Great Flood

Kannada Poem by M. Gopalakrishna Adiga
Translated by C.P. Ravikumar

A river of life flows incessantly
From one heart to another
A hundred summers cannot wither
This fount; nor can a blanket of algae
And dry sand; reduced to a streak, a non-entity,
Somewhere underneath the harsh rubble,
The current quietly bubbles
Guarding a treasure, secretly!

If not today, tomorrow. A new sky
Will open doors; clouds will melt and rain
Will descend in torrents; hearts will overflow
Cleansed of impure in every vein

There is no other way, no escape, unless -
The torrential rain floods the streak below
And across hearts the river resumes its happy flow.
O how I await, when will it arrive,
That great flood into our lives?
