The Goodness Of A Life-Mate (Section-6 Of Thirukural) Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

The Goodness Of A Life-Mate (Section-6 Of Thirukural)

1. She who is a paragon of wifely- virtues and a spender
within the means of her husband, is a good life-support.
2. If the wife is bereft of household excellence,
life is worthless even if it has any other greatness.
3. If the wife is virtuous, what doesn't the house have?
If she is depraved, what does it have?
4. If a woman has strength of chastity,
what else can surpass her?
5. No sooner she utters her word than it rains,
if she prays to her husband on rising, though God she adores not.
6. She is the woman who guards herself and her husband
and also preserves tirelessly the name of her household.
7. It is great when honour guards a woman!
What is the use of confining her to a den?
8. If a woman bows to the man who has her as his wife,
she will be honoured in the world where gods dwell.
9. He whose wife adores not her chastity, can have no
lion-like walk before the slanderers.
10.The excellence of a wife is a blessing to the house.
Having good children is the precious jewel of it.
