The Girl Poem by Leah Ayliffe

The Girl

I don't know who's more real, the girl I pretend to be in life, or the one I pretend to be in art. None of them are me, but they're the only ones I'll allow you to see. I need you to look into my eyes and acknowledge when they're sad without asking any questions, cause I'll always be okay in the outer world, I'll always carry a smile. If you read my words you'll know a hard sadness and madness, vulnerable and true to the chaos stirring inside. I will not hide my darkness there, no, it will shine on in my shades of black gray and blue. It won't be a reflection of reality, cause darling, I don't live there.

A star sitting next to a pond, why does she sit there in contemplation? Her light is nothing compared to the reflection of the sparkling sun.

I don't know who's more real, the girl I pretend to be in life, or the one I pretend to be in art. None of them are me, but they're the only ones I'll allow you to see.
