The Gems Poem by Anupa Subramanian

The Gems

Rating: 2.5

My eyes long to meet you, everytime I think of those golden days you gifted us.

The days when waking up for a new day was as exciting as opening a gift.
Going to school was like logging in a networking site
and recess was just another thing that we liked.

Every school bell drew us closer to the destination
which was more beautiful than the school ambience.
...
...the place that we did and still call a HOME
being in moms arms was the most comfortable zone.

silly fights were like huge arguments and
petty reasons led to celebrations.

The joys were immensely humble,
an outing on the scooter just made it double.

Every house echoed the same tone of doordarshan,
watching Mahabharata was the only obsession.

Mowgli captivated the kids' world and
shaktimaan entered every household.

phones never rang nor beeped of messages,
playground was our sole treasure, for ages.

papa coming home fulfilled our day and
a family dinner kept worries at bay..

but now when I feel like meeting you, I close my eyes;
I just close my eyes and introspect
and there I see you in my life; its every aspect

The happiness I see in my life is your reflection.
Its your good deeds that is showered on me as success.

I owe to you as you made me caring and sensitive,
for when I bring up my child, I see things from your perspective.

when I walk, when I talk, I may not take your name.
But you both are always always here....

Good one. But then, the beginning was very shaky and out of place. The poem starts to flow from the 5th stanza onwards. But then again you move out of context, from home...to parents.
