The Game Of Statues

The Game of Statues

by C.P. Ravikumar

Remember the game
We played in school?
Point your finger at your friend
And shout Statue!
Your friend must stay absolutely still
Until you unfreeze.
If the statue giggles
He has lost the game.

To this day, the game continues.
We have frozen Gandhi
And Ambedkar
And Buddha and Basavanna, to name a few.

They have become awfully quiet
And speak no more to us.
But have you noticed they are winning?
See, they are not smiling.
