The Friend That Befriended Me Poem by Ola Joseph Kolawole

The Friend That Befriended Me

THE FRIEND THAT BEFRIENDED ME.

My heart is astir with gracious a panegyric
Readily inditing a lovely poem
Encomiums overwhelm my heart –
But sincere praise with no flattery
Words meet words in my heart
The latter melting upon the former
Hastening through my blood veins
To my tender loving hand
Flowing by conduction to my golden pen
This is now dancing with ecstasy on my scroll…

I’ve got words to say in writing
About the friend that I befriended…
– Or better said –
To the friend that befriended me.

How tender are those arms of yours
Which I have felt around my shoulders
At times to encourage
And many other times to reprove.

How welcoming your shoulders have been
Those many times I’ve rested my weary head on them
Soaking them in my soggy tears
Having realized my short comings.

Your ever smiling face thou love of my life
Has boosted my self – esteem many times
And much more many other times
It has enlightened my countenance.

Smile again, my beloved
That I can behold that wondrous flash
That emanates from those glittering enamels
That I may smile as well.

Something thrills me at your hugs –
You hold me so tightly and warmly
And being of equal heights,
Your lips locate mine.

Every time I kiss the honey – drizzling lips
My heart indites a melody
For Your Spirit is re – infused into mine
And we exchange deep breaths.

Come to the kitchen of my love
And watch my love prepare my favourite delicacy
Or better still, join us at the dinning
And experience with us, the unveiled koinonia.

Samson slept on the knees of Delilah
And woke up powerless
But I slept on the knees of my love
And I woke up refreshed.

You are the love of my life
Thou epitome of Wisdom
You are the hope that I can’t do without,
Thou paragon of Virtues

You worth more than any ephemerals
Thou Charity personified
And I won’t dare to trade You
For any powers or authorities.

All hail the Peak of Beauty
All hail Understanding made flesh
All hail Knowledge exemplified
All hail The Love of my Life

Who had loved me this much… even before I met HIM.
