The France I Remember Poem by The Poet Darkling

The France I Remember

The France I remember
Is the France I saw through your eyes
I kissed your lips of red
Under the cloudless, blue French sky

The smell of vanilla
And taste of honey mixed with wine
In a field of poppies
I embraced you then, made you mine

"Je t'aime! Je t'aime, "
You whispered in the summer sun
"Oh! Mon doux ange française,
Forever be my only one! "

We made love in the grass
While gazing in each other's eyes
"Ne me quitte jamais, "
That warm summer day in Marseilles

La France, je me souviens
C'est la France que j'ai vu à travers ses yeux
The France I remember
Is the France where I first loved you
