The Fortune Teller Poem by Monalno Kim

The Fortune Teller

Rating: 5.0

The man walked in the market between the stalls
He smelled the food, saw the people and heard their calls
'Come and I'll read your future in your hand.
I'll tell you if you'll sail to another land.'
The man paused where the fortune teller sat
'Come, young man, you wearing a used shirt that's red.'
'Come, ' she beckoned, 'see the time when you are dead.'
The man hestaited, for he was very confused
How did she know that his shirt was red and used?
For after looking at her, he saw that she was blind
Maybe she had guessed or was crazy in the mind
There was no harm in listening to her tales
To examine her milky eyes and her long nails
So he sat down with the fortune teller, who grippped his hand
'Let's see, ' she said, 'What, for you, the spirits have planned.'
'Ahh, ' she spoke, 'I see many challenges facing you.'
He scoffed, 'For all people that is evidently true.'
'Do you want me to describe your love? ' She asked,
'Or your death, or the feelings you have always masked? '
'I don't love, ' he smiled, 'I have no girl.'
'Ahh, but you will meet her soon, ' she said, 'A daughter of an earl.'
'Tell me about her, ' the man said, 'Is she pretty? Beautiful? Or plain? '
'She's sad and lonely, ' she said, 'she's from northern Spain? '
'Yes, ' the fortune teller said, but to elaborate more she refused
So the young man got up and left, his belief he fought
When suddenly he bumped into a young girl, who was pretty a lot
'Sorry, senior, ' she said. She's from Spain! The young man thought.
